Overview

The 1997 Honda Passport seems to not have the typical, and expected, Honda reliability. It's been around for three years, and not all drivers are pleased, with some even saying the engine gives out at only 90K miles.
The was a change in the Passport this year. The DX model is no longer available, but, the good news is that the 4-cylinder engine on all models has been upgraded to a 6-cylinder.
Standard features in the '97 Honda Passport still include driver and passenger airbags in the front, and a new instrument panel. The Honda Passport still uses a body-on-base truck-like design, which is good since it makes for better suspension.
The EX 4WD includes ABS, reclining front bucket seats, halogen headlamps, and child-safe rear doors.
But, in the end, customers are disappointed in the reliability and blame it on Isuzu's build.
Drivers like the towing ability and the Passport SUV's ability to maneuver in the snow. Many wish there had been a roof rack to help with limited cargo space.

It is a fun and good looking car, and extremely reliable. I own the 5speed manual so i definitely abuse the car daily and all my friends think im a crazy driver, and even with 175k on the odometer its still an extremley reliable car that will take the abusing like a champ. I really the next car that I buy is as reliable as this.

Any time I tell someone at the local Honda dealer about my Passport, they respond "You know it wasn't made by Honda, right?" Well - yes, but since they service it and they keep asking, I'll keep telling them that the car isn't very well made. On the plus side, we make a trip over the mountains each winter and it does really well in the snow. 4WD works great.
