Some do and some don't have oil consumption issues. Unless you can drive the car for a 1,000 miles or more there is probably no way to know if it uses oil. I would be sure and get the Subaru backed extended warranty!!!

My 2018 outback with 24,000 miles is using 1 quart of oil between oil changes. This has been consistent through all 4 oil changes. I contacted Subaru directly about the oil consumption and they told me this sounded normal and would not hurt the motor in any way.

One quart in 6,000 miles is quite good but you should Not run the engine one quart low. I would never want to run it more than a 1/2 quart down.

Agreed, this is my first Subaru I like the car, but find it odd the mfg. tells me it's ok to use that much oil between recommended oil changes. I hope it does not get worse. I have owned Ford trucks for 30 years and none of them have used that much oil even at 200,000 miles, although oil changes are at much lower intervals. Maybe oil change intervals at 4000 miles is a wise choice. I assume it's simply inherent to the motor design, something Subie owners just accept. My car has been flawless otherwise.
