Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I will be shipping my 2014 Ford Escape Titanium from Germany to the United
States.  The shipping company will be disconnecting the battery during
shipping.  Will this damage or affect any of the electronics in the car?

Your car actually has two batteries, one a low-voltage battery to maintain certain engine control settings. If you disconnect this you'll have to restore settings by letting computer relearn your driving habits. The manual covers a lot of this; http://www.fordservicecontent.com/Ford_Content/catalog/owner_guides/14204om1e.pdf, scroll down to page 216. I'm sure it's a safety reason the shipping company does this, but it seems archaic, given how cars today really don't like having their batteries removed, but batteries for these cars do need to be replaced on occasion so it's not all bad. As long as you follow the manuals procedures for restoring computer settings you should be okay. I'd be a lot more concerned about letting their monkeys undo or reconnect the batteries while not following procedures or letting + & - terminals short, however.
