Why does engine idle so high at start up?

Just bought 87 hardbody w/ z24 engine.
Engine revs over 4500rpm and won't come
down to normal idle?
Please well informed responses only. I'm not
stupid. I'm pretty dam good mech. Just never
had experience with nissan.

Or a stuck IAC (Idle Air Control) valve, if equipped. Hope that helps! Jim
