2012 Subaru Impreza CVT

Asked by Pete Feb 04, 2019 at 02:07 PM about the 2012 Subaru Impreza 2.0i Sport Premium Hatchback

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

After starting my car the following dashboard
lights are on:
Check Engine
Vehicle Dynamics
Cruise (flashing)

After driving for a minute or two and experiencing
a jerky shift with transmission:
At oil temp (flashing)
ABS

The car seems to go into a failsafe mode and I no
longer experience any jerky shifts but warning
lights remain on. The at oil temp and ABS lights
reset after turning off car.

Using an obdii scanner I get code P0700 indicating
a transmission control system malfunction.

Has anyone experienced this issue and know what
the culprit might be? I'm not willing to get a new
transmission or any expensive work done because
the car has 146k miles on it and isn't worth it.

I would hit up Subaru for a new transmission, maybe you will get lucky. A used transmission is another option.

My car did the same thing this past Sunday. I am assuming the other code that should've read is P2764. the P0700 only gives you part of the problem. I was told I need a new Valve Body and am fighting with Subaru to replace it for free. There is an issue with the CVT in multiple models and they only did an extended warranty instead of recalling. My car is at the dealership but I am going straight through SOA to hopefully have them cover the cost. A valve body repair alone is almost $2000 and I also have a 2012 Subaru Impreza Hatchback. Good luck!

Hey my 2012 impreza is having the same issue I took it to Aamco they said they could replace the valve body but there's no guarantee they said they will guarantee their work if they replace my transmission but that will cost $8,000 what did you do to fix the problem?

My 2012 Impreza just did this today. Unfortunately it’s over the 100k mark but only by 26k) to qualify for warranty coverage. It seems to me that too many people are now having this problem and their “extended warranty” doesn’t really help when it ran out well before the cohort of cars in question could age. Class action??

Warranties are calculated to miss the vast majority of claims.
