High pitch squeal when break applied

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Saturn L300 was running fine until this morning. I was on
the highway going 60mph and noticed a “power loss “
and a high pitched squeal when the break was applied.
RPM we’re going up and down. Drove a little farther and
the car died. Turned it off and started right back up.
Seemed ok. Thoughts?

Automatic. I had the tension pulley replaced a year ago but not the belt.
