My wife was driving oil light came on and engine shut down won't start

Is she locked up?....the motor, not the wife~~does the damn thing even turn anymore?

of course you put the oil filter on correctly...removed the double gasket that caused the leakage....something caused the leak....I suspect a junior-level spee-dee left the old o-ring gasket on there and made a leak...else substituted an incorrect filter on that....as a mechanic have seen both of these conditions....it's not the fault of your wife, but the fault of the last oil change service.....air, fuel, spark....check these...ask me how, if needed~

as I recall these oil pumps are driven off of the timing belt...there is a slight chance the belt had a couple of teeth scraped off or jumped a tooth...leading to incorrect valve timing....could you please let us know which engine this car has?~

Ever had the timing chain or belt as dictated by the owner's manual...in other words proper maintenance on the critical systems?~

Just bought the van last year regular oil changes no problems its a 3.8L
