I can't afford tires right now and have
different treads in the front and back on my
Cherokee. My question is which drive shaft
should I remove to save my differentials.

The front drive shaft, drive in 2 wheel drive.

Front driveshaft for sure. The rear driveshaft is much stronger than the front.

Using the front wheels as drive wheels on pavement when it is in 4 wheel drive is extremely hard on the front axles, and the 4 wheel drive system.
