High pitch squealing

Asked by MDX_5885 May 15, 2016 at 10:22 AM about the 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced my front bearings yesterday on my 2007
pontiac grand prix. Immediately upon driving there
is a high pitch squealing sound comong from my
drivers side wheel. It does not make the sound in
reverse. It does make the sound going forward at
any speed, turning either direction and whether I'm
braking or not.

Sounds like backing plate is bent touching rotor or brake pad shim is touching brake rotor

Is there a brake wear indicator on the brake pad that is rubbing on the brake rotor?

Did you figure this out. I'm having the same issue. Only in forward. No noise in reverse and I shifted into neutral and still makes the noise and braking doesn't change it. Only seems to happen under 5 miles per hour.

Oh ya and brakes are brand new. Pads and rotors. Stumped on this one and I've been working on cars for 15 plus years. I thought wheel bearing but turning charges nothing. I've checked power steering fluid level and it's fine. Transmission level is fine. Any help would be more then appreciated!! Thanks Kevin

I’m not sure what it is called but on the inside side of the rotor near the bottom, there was a little tab that had gotten pressed against the rotor. It would only squeal in reverse and if the wheel was straight. If I turned the wheel, it would stop. I just bent the two tabs back to straight and there is no more squeaking.
