Electronic throttle control

Asked by GuruQVSCF Nov 15, 2019 at 12:58 PM about the 2013 Chrysler Town & Country

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Having trouble starting 2013 Town & Country.  ETC light comes on.  Tried the
suggested remedy of turning on accessory, pressing gas pedal completely
slowly, releasing gas pedal slowly, turning ignition off.  Turning ignition again.
Still doesn’t start after several tries with this method.  What now.

To re-calibrate accelerator and throttle position sensors. With foot off the brake, press the start button to put in accessory mode, Slowly depress the accelerator pedal to the floor, Slowly release it. Press the brake pedal, then the start button. It should start normally with no ETC light. The sequence which you outlined did not match this on exactly. Not sure if that is the problem but I'd try again.

Make sure you do not hit the brake pedal early on in the sequence. Also, these procedures are time sensitive. I have found where I had to try them several times before they worked. If the light does clear but then comes immediately back... that is another issue.

Sorry, noticed one more item to clarify. Turn ignition to ON but do not try to start. And once in the ON position wait for most of the dash warning lights to go out before slowly pressing the accelerator.... etc... Those little things can make a difference. Good luck.
