Not starting and randomly died when I quickly stepped on the gas

Asked by Wyatt Feb 09, 2016 at 03:01 PM about the 1973 Volkswagen Super Beetle

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

First off, I have a 1973 Volkswagen super beetle. I
was driving a couple weeks ago and all was good, I
stepped on the gas to pass someone and my car
puttered out out of no where. I had a guy come by
and he told me it was the fuel pump, so I went to
auto zone got a new fuel pump, put it on and it's
still not starting. There's no throttle when I try to
start it but I know it's not the throttle wire because
it's tight. I'm so stumped on what to do right now,

Check the points in the distributor, make sure they are firing right.Bugs are bad for burning them up after a little while.
