The 2019 Ford F-150 carried over many design elements from its 2018 refresh, including the extensive use of aluminum which had been criticized by competitors for perceived durability concerns, yet proved resilient. The use of aluminum also appeared in competitors' models, reflecting a begrudging industry acceptance. The 2019 models offered a variety of trims from the practical XL to the luxurious Limited, which all boasted a range of aesthetic and functional features, including unique upholstery options in the King Ranch and massaging seats in the Platinum and Limited trims.

Conversely, the 2020 Ford F-150 maintained Ford's design philosophy of understated confidence with cleaner lines and a blockier grille that projected durability and reliability. Inside, while still practical, it introduced more premium materials in higher trims but was noted for lagging behind competitors like the Ram 1500 in terms of outright luxury feel. The interior was built to endure rather than indulge, focusing more on long-term durability and utility across the same range of trims as its predecessor.

For 2019, the Ford F-150 introduced a 3.0-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel V6 to its diverse engine lineup. This engine, available in the King Ranch trim, provided 250 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque but was noted for its impressive smoothness for a diesel, making it suitable for both new and seasoned truck owners alike. Other engine options included a base 3.3-liter V6 and several EcoBoost options, culminating in a 450-horsepower 3.5-liter EcoBoost in the Limited trim. Importantly, its wide array of engines continued to cater to a variety of needs from hardcore towing to everyday commuting.

The 2020 model continued with the same breadth of engine options, and like in 2019, towing capacity was a strong point. The 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 could tow up to 12,300 pounds when properly equipped, showcasing incremental improvements in capacity and efficiency. Both model years featured a 10-speed automatic transmission for all but the base engine, which allowed for fine-tuned power delivery and better fuel efficiency across most of the engine lineup.
