2020 Ford F-250 Super Duty Reviews Summary

“To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often.” Winston Churchill was likely not referring to the heavy-duty pickup truck market when he uttered this quote, but it resonates nonetheless. It seems like every year the Big Three American truck-makers are trying to one-up one another, whether it's towing and hauling, passenger space, or technology.

It's unclear how many truck owners shop on superlatives alone. It’s also unclear how many shoppers need “the most” of one particular attribute. Sure, some will need the towing capability for certain jobs. But far more will buy these trucks and want a balance of attributes that is as well-rounded as their needs. While the 2020 Ford F-250 Super Duty gives up a bit of ride quality to achieve some best-in-class numbers, it’s a well-balanced truck. Read on to find out why.

2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty Reviews Summary

Heavy-duty trucks are all about getting work done. They have the highest tow ratings of any non-commercial vehicles, and they have the features and tools for worksites and contractors. But a trend over the past decade is the increasing popularity of the “luxury truck.” Owners also use their trucks as commuter cars, family haulers, and road trip vehicles.

The 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty is offered in a wide variety of trims to accommodate its equally wide variety of potential uses. For 2020, the F-350 gets a new 7.3-liter V8, expanded use of the new 10-speed automatic transmission, and a new off-road-inspired trim called the Tremor. But which Ford Super Duty is right for you?

The 2020 Ford F-250 Super Duty received some subtle updates that were noticeable to keen Blue Oval fans. The front bumper featured more black painted areas and less bling, while the massive grille swapped its large two-bar design for a more restrained look. The altered grille shape made the headlights sleeker without changing their overall shape. The result was a truck that showed some styling restraint without a complete redesign. The F-250 was available in various trims, from the basic XL with its black grille and bumpers to the luxurious Limited with a satin-chrome grille and twin-panel moonroof. Inside, the F-250's cabin was functional but not particularly welcoming, with plenty of hard plastics and a cold, mechanical feel. The base XL model came decently equipped for a work truck, while higher trims like the King Ranch and Platinum added more comfort and luxury features.

The 2020 Ford F-350 Super Duty also received styling updates, including a more detailed grille and headlights. The new grille moved away from the gaudy chrome-clad bars of the 2019 model, resulting in a more mature-looking heavy-duty pickup. However, the design was still a modest evolution of the 2017 model. The cabin remained unchanged, with blocky styling that was ideally suited for work use but not particularly inviting. The F-350 was available in the same trim levels as the F-250, with the base XL featuring 17-inch steel wheels and vinyl seats, while higher trims like the King Ranch and Platinum added more luxury features. The range-topping Limited provided power-retractable running boards, a panoramic sunroof, and a premium audio system by Bang & Olufsen.

Both gas engines were paired with a new 10-speed automatic transmission, while the diesel V8 was paired with a six-speed automatic. The F-250 could tow up to 30,000 pounds when equipped with the 6.7-liter diesel, 3.55 axle ratio, and High Capacity Tow Package. The truck's suspension was well-sprung to handle heavy loads, but it resulted in a bumpy ride when not loaded down. The available FX4 off-road package added upgraded shocks, skid plates, and Trail Control. The new Tremor off-road package included 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler tires, a 2-inch lift, and rock crawl driving mode.
