Overview

The compact SUV segment is a tough place to do business in 2023, heading into 2024, but the Tucson is Hyundai’s ace in the hole. It’s refined, it's packed with tech, and it has standout styling that makes it the obvious choice for anyone wanting to avoid the increasing sameness foisted upon us by the other automakers.
What's New for the 2024 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid
The sporty N Line trim goes hybrid this year: It's no longer available on the gas-powered, or ICE (for internal combustion engine) Tucson. The larger touchscreen and nav become standard for both the Tucson Hybrid and the Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid, and all three, including the gas Hyundai Tucson, get newly standard safety features.
Design
The Tucson has a unique grille with wing-shaped LED running lights and an aggressive front-end design that is at odds with its role as a sedate family hauler. Its sides are sculpted and feature sharp geometric shapes, and top trims avoid too much chrome and overt badging. The N Line trim, new to the Tucson Hybrid lineup, adds some sporty flair with a spoiler, exclusive badging, and unique 19-inch wheels.
Powertrain
While the gas-powered Tucson gets a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, the Tucson Hybrid comes with a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine. The combined output for the standard hybrid is 226 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, while the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model sees 261 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, regardless of trim A six-speed automatic transmission comes standard, sending power to all four wheels (4WD). The Tucson Hybrid’s suspension system does a great job at soaking up the worst road imperfections and helps the SUV maintain a planted, confident driving experience in most situations. At the same time, it’s far from sporty, but the electric motor's instant torque helps the Hybrid feel lively and eager.
Interior
The Tucson Hybrid’s cabin is upscale, modern, and easy on the eyes. Lower trims’ cloth upholstery feels nicer than expected, and the available leather makes the SUV feel downright plush. The Tucson Hybrid N Line comes with a sport leather/cloth combo. No matter the seating surface, there’s great space for front-seat passengers, and adults can ride comfortably in the rear outboard seats. Hyundai also gives the Tucson ample cargo space and a large hatch opening to make loading and unloading gear a breeze.
Technology
The 10.25-inch touchscreen becomes standard equipment on the hybrid and PHEV for the new model year. The 2024 Tucson Hybrid's infotainment system includes navigation, voice recognition, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto by default, and a Bose stereo and other upgrades come with the N Line and Limited trims. While it’s far from the flashiest or most colorful system on the market, it’s easy to use and less distracting than some competing interfaces.
Safety
Hyundai equips automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warnings, lane-departure alerts, and lane-keep assist as standard. Higher trims add blind-spot monitoring, a surround-view camera, adaptive cruise, and more. The Tucson earned a Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in 2023, which includes top scores in most categories. Exceptions include the headlights, seatbelt reminders, and car-seat anchors, which all earned “Acceptable” scores.
Pricing
The 2024 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid starts at $32,325 before destination. The Limited trim starts at $39,465, and the sporty N Line trim at $36,405. All models see $1,335 tacked on at the bottom line for destination.

Went from a small Hyundai Veloster to the bigger and better Tucson. So far it rides well, has good mileage, and was easy to create a digital key on an NFC card which I ordered from Hyundai.

The Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Limited is luxurious but practical! Great on gas and such a comfortable, quiet ride. I researched and looked far and wide and I can’t think of another vehicle I would want right now!

I want to like this car so much. It has great tech, gets good economy, is reasonably sporty, but the hybrid sounds are awful. As many say, it sounds like angel music when driving slow, which to me is bad enough, but the backup beeper is a deal breaker. I would rather drive a bulldozer and at least have a rugged sound to wake up the neighbors. This thing sounds terrible and it is way louder than necessary.
