About 2006 Hyundai Elantra
Overview

A 2.0-liter, 138 hp inline 4 cylinder engine comes standard in all trims of the 2006 Hyundai Elantra line. Standard across the board as well are the two engine options: a 5 speed manual or a 4 speed automatic. Gas mileage for the 2006 Hyundai Elantra is a respectable 24/34 mpg city/highway. Not a large car by any standard, the 2006 Elantra has plenty of space, power and zip for regular day to day driving, though families might want to steer clear.
A new trim was added for the third year in a row to the Hyundai Elantra line in 2006: the Limited Sedan, which offers a level of luxury not previously found in the Hyundai Elantra line. Depending on the trim, there are a number of standard and optional features on the 2006 Hyundai Elantra. Air conditioning, cruise control, a leather steering wheel cover, leather seats, a CD player (which now comes standard on all trims), and now even a powered or manual sunroof are all available. For safety, the 2006 Hyundai Elantra has driver, passenger and side airbags, ABS, traction control, and power windows and locks.
With a very few exceptions, the gas mileage on the 2006 Hyundai Elantra was the feature most talked about by owners in reviews. Consistently people were getting 33-35 miles per gallon, even with the air conditioning on. Other features people love were the peppiness of the engine, even with the gas mileage, and the amount of space that is available in a compact sedan. And of course, the unbeatable warrenty. There were some minor complaints, but most of them cosmetic, like dissatisfaction with the shape of the grill or there not being a remote trunk opener. Other than that, however, most of the problems that Hyundai had with previous Elantras seem to have been fixed in the 2006. A HIGHLY recommended vehicle.

Overall, I loved my 2006 Elantra, and would still be driving out had it not been totaled in an accident recently. I bought it new, and with exception of a couple of annoying quirks, it treated me well. It was good on gas, even with all the junk that had accumulated in the trunk. It was reliable, and held up very well when I unavoidably rear-ended another vehicle on the highway at approximately 35-45 mph. The car was a total loss - airbag deployed, front smashed in, hood crumpled, windshield cracked, but the interior was fully intact, so definitely a safe car. The only problems I had (the quirks) were 1.) Small door-mounted speaker cover somehow broke, 2.) Driver side windshield wiper loosened while driving in a snowstorm (this happened twice, both times the snow being heavy & wet), and 3.) brake light switch failed causing brake lights to stay on constantly, even when car was not running. (Fortunately this happened when the bumper-to-bumper warranty was still in effect). Overall, I would highly recommend buying this car as a second around-town car, as a commuter car for a college student, or as a first car for a young driver.

Love my car, plan to keep it for family members to use when needed. Car has been dependable and the maintenance has been minimal. Changed all of the drive belts and the manufactured parts are long lasting. No real issues.

Was not sure how it would perform as the miles keep adding up, but even after almost 55000 miles, there has not been a single problem! Hyundai rocks!

Reliablility and keyless entry are tops. Hatchback great for urban shopping in tight spaces. AM/FM CD player works great and additional 9V outlet synchs well with my MP3 converter. Peppy engine and great gas mileage for compact car of its size.
