Overview

The 1998 Toyota Sienna was introduced to take the place of the unpopular Previa. The 1998 Sienna had a more conventional shape and powerful engine than Toyota's previous minivan. It was also much more affordable, but interior niceties like bucket seat side supports were sacrificed to keep the price low.
The 1998 Sienna came in three trim levels: the base CE, the midrange LE, and the high-end XLE. The CE is for minimalists only, with air conditioning, power windows, power locks, and a cassette player all optional. The LE is better equipped, and the XLE includes luxury-like amenities, such as leather-trimmed seating and a power moonroof. Both the LE and the XLE are available with an optional second sliding door. The engine is a 3.0-liter, 194-horsepower V6 that gets about 18/24 mpg.
Drivers like the 1998 Toyota Sienna because it is built on the Camry platform and therefore handles more like a sedan than a van. Owners complain that the sliding doors sometimes have problems opening and that the van is prone to many squeaks, rattles, and other annoying noises.

I inherited this van from my parents when my father died. It has been reliable, hard working, and has plenty of room and power for my family. I wish the features were more sturdy, but I've loved this van. Lasts forever!

Our Sienna is by far the best car I have ever owned. It is amazing. 190K miles, and still runs like new. We tow our 3500lb ski boat with it. We tow our camper with it. I commute daily in it. Many road trips to FL. I can't say enough about what a joy it has been to own this car. We've never had any trouble with. I just change the oil and keep on driving. I would highly recommend one. Our next car will be a Sienna. I'll probably opt for the AWD on the next one.

Nearly 300k kms and still running very strong. Removable seats and a factory installed tow-package make this a great fully-enclosed truck. So far, it has only needed an alternator, two inner tie-rods and regular maintenance in two years of ownership.

I bought this van used with over 100K miles. While the interior showed the ravages of spilled soda and a Schnauzer, the mechanicals were fine. Exterior has held up under the tropical sun without fade. Highway mpg is 22 to 25 ( which I have tracked for 6 years) and 19 to 21 around town. The previous owners had a history report and they explained an A/C problem that the dealership never successfully addressed. I used BRAKE CLEANER to saturate the A/C compressor clutch surfaces (cost $2.18) and it has performed without exception for years.
