The Chevelle differed from cars of its day in the simplicity of its design and size of its body. While many muscle cars had tail fins and extravagant design, the Chevelle kept is clean and simple.

The engine was a 194-ci I6, but most opted for a V8 rated at 195 horsepower. A four-barrel carburetor L77 was rated at 220 horsepower.
