It’s no secret that Americans are crazy about SUVs, but Toyota seems to have figured out a smart compromise between the high-riding family haulers and traditional sedans. The Crown is the result of that effort, offering a slightly raised driving position, frugal hybrid powertrain options, and an upscale interior that edges on Lexus levels of luxury and refinement.

What’s New for the 2025 Toyota Crown
Toyota added a new Nightshade trim for the 2025 model year. The package brings blacked-out exterior trim pieces, including badges, and Toyota limits Nightshade paint colors to Black and Storm Cloud. Heated and ventilated front seats became standard for 2025, and the range-topping Platinum trim now has a standard head-up display.
Design
The Crown has a distinctive look, with a fastback shape and a beefy body that splits the difference between a crossover and a sedan. Overall, the styling is clean, though Toyota gave the car a comically large grille, and some of the two-tone paint options can make it feel a little too Stormtrooper-esque.
Powertrain
Toyota offers two electrified powertrain options for the 2025 Crown. The base hybrid system includes a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and an electric motor, which make a combined 236 horsepower. The Hybrid Max configuration uses a turbocharged 2.4-liter engine and a rear-mounted electric motor for a combined 340 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. The base hybrid uses a continuously variable transmission (CVT) to send power to all four wheels, while the Hybrid Max gets a six-speed automatic with its all-wheel drive (AWD).
Interior
The five-seat Crown comes standard with leather upholstery and heated/ventilated front seats. Other standard interior features include power front-seat adjustments, heated rear seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and leather-wrapped shift knob. Toyota offers memory settings for the driver’s seat. While there’s a good amount of space for front-seat passengers, people in the back might find limited headroom due to the car’s dramatically-sloped roofline.
Technology
Toyota equips a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other standard tech features include navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless charging, six speakers, SiriusXM radio, HD radio, five USB ports, and dual-zone automatic climate controls. Toyota recently improved its infotainment interface, making it far more intuitive and responsive than earlier systems. Higher Crown trims get a JBL stereo and a digital key system.
Safety
The 2025 Crown hasn’t received crash-testing yet, but the 2024 Crown earned a Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIhS), and the 2023 model grabbed a Top Safety Pick+. Standard safety equipment includes forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, traffic-sign recognition, safe-exit assist, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, a rearview camera, and adaptive cruise control.
Pricing and Release Date
As of the time of this writing, the 2025 Toyota Crown starts at $41,440 for the base XLE trim. The Limited starts at $45,950, the Nightshade at $48,765, and the range-topping Platinum model costs $54,990. The Crown is on sale now.
