The Ioniq 5 was Hyundai’s first electric vehicle (EV) under the now fully fledged Ioniq sub-brand (not to be confused with the discontinued Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid/Plug-In Hybrid/Electric trifecta). Its unique “pixelated” styling and impressive range, performance, and tech make it a compelling EV in its segment, and it’s surprisingly spacious inside, despite its tidy exterior dimensions.

What’s New for the 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5
Hyundai has a new Ioniq 5 N performance variant planned for 2025, but there have been no notable changes to the vehicle for the 2024 model year.
Design
There’s nothing quite like the Ioniq 5 on the market today. The SUV’s square headlights and taillights give off a unique 8-bit pixelated look, and the creased side panels give the vehicle a striking presence in profile. There’s an interesting mix of curves and sharp angles that play together to make a truly eye-catching automobile, setting the Ioniq 5 apart from its rivals.
Powertrain
Hyundai offers three powertrain options in the 2024 Ioniq 5. The entry-level configuration includes a 58-kilowatt-hour battery pack and a single electric motor sending 168 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels. The mid-range option steps up to a 77.4-kWh battery and boosts output to 225 hp and 258 lb-ft, again with rear-wheel drive (RWD). A dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) powertrain is also available with the larger battery pack; this configuration is rated at 320 hp and 446 lb-ft of torque.
The Ioniq 5’s range starts at 220 miles for the base model and reaches 303 miles with the 77.4-kWh pack. The AWD model’s range tops out at 260 miles, but impressive fast-charging capability, courtesy of an 800-volt electrical architecture, should make up for any perceived shortfalls.
Interior
The Ioniq 5 seats five people on standard cloth upholstery, but synthetic leather is available in higher trim levels. Heated front seats are standard, and more expensive configurations add ventilated front seats and a heated steering wheel.
Technology
All 2024 Ioniq 5s come with a 12.3-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Standard tech features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, six speakers, HD radio, SiriusXM radio, navigation, Bluetooth, and more. Top models add a Bose stereo, wireless phone charging, ambient LED interior lighting, and Hyundai’s digital key system.
Safety
The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 earned a Top Safety Pick+ award in testing performed by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The model has a long list of standard safety tech, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, driver-attention monitoring, rear parking sensors, and more. Higher trims also get front parking sensors, a 360-degree camera system, a blind-spot camera system, and rain-sensing wipers.
Pricing and Release Date
The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is on sale now. As of this writing, it starts at $43,175, which includes a $1,375 destination charge. The SE trim costs $47,225, and the SEL starts at $49,775. The top Limited trim starts at $54,875. Hyundai doesn’t offer many added-cost options, but premium paints and other upgrades can push those prices slightly higher than expected.
