Rough starts and occasionally "stops"
Hi...
My son recently inherited a 1987 Jetta GLI from his grandmother. 71k
original miles... It was running/idling very rough and not a lot of power... I did
new cap/rotor and plugs and wires. Runs and idles much smoother now.
Problem is that it still is a rough start. It takes a bit of cranking till it turns
over. Once it does, idles smooth. He also claims that it occasionally stops
(usually at a a red light). Not stalling with a shudder... Stops like someone
turned the key off. I know this model has reported fuel pump issues.
Based on this description, can anyone suggest a logical place to start?
Thanks, in advance.
