Starting Issue

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello. I've been having an issue with my car for about a
month now, in the morning my car starts like normal but
after it's warm and I park if it sits for anything longer than
30 or 40 minutes it acts like it has trouble starting and after
a couple seconds it fires up and kind of blubs for another
couple seconds, some start ups are worse than others and
when it's bad (barely starts) I can smell gas coming from
the exhuast for a few seconds until it seems to clear out
and runs perfectly normal after. I have a new battery, spark
plugs, coil packs, and fuel pump. I've been trying to find
somebody with an issue that matches this but I can't seem
to find an answer to point me in a direction

Could be fuel pressure regulator. Allowing fuel leakage into cylinders after ignition shutoff. I had these same conditions on a 99 yukon. Changed the regulator (and the spider injectors since I was already there) and problem was gone.

I'm having the exact same problem with my 2013 Veloster turbo. I go out to start it and sometimes it starts right up and other times it hesitates and winds. Dealership looks at me like I'm crazy because it's not on their computers ;/

After dealing with this for almost a year my car finally threw a code and it was the crankshaft position sensor, replaced that and I haven't had an issue since

Yes, I am the orginal post. It turned out to be my Crankshaft Position Sensor. After over a year of this problem it finally got bad enough to give me a code. Like a 10 minute fix

GuruB452V Did you have to do a relearn on your ecu after changing out the crankshaft position sensor?

No, I just unplugged it and plugged the new one back in, it just had one screw. The only problem I encountered was the Duralast brand from AutoZone was just a little too short so I couldn't put the connection in its designated mount but that didn't cause any problems so it was fine.

GuruB452V Yeah I purchased the same one from auto zone but unfortunately my car is still having the same issue. I just knew it was gonna fix it bc my problem was identical to yours. ‍♂️
