1997 Nissan Truck 2.4L Motor

Asked by Brittany Sep 04, 2016 at 11:51 AM about the 1997 Nissan Pickup 2 Dr STD Standard Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hard to start.  Even harder to start when it's warm.  It takes 3 times for it to
finally turn over and start.  Idle is inconsistent.  It idles between 6 and 8k RPM.
Just looking for some advice for some other Nissan pickup owners.  Thanks in
advance.

Check or replace your fuel pressure regulator. Could be the diaphragm in the FPR is leaky - you may be getting some gas down the vacuum line - if you shut engine off and then pull the vac line and see if any gas is present, that's a bad FPR. (could still be bad and not have gas present tho)

if it's hard to start, you may want to get a compression test. That will tell you if you need engine work. Or just get an old rag or tissue and wipe the exhaust pipe. If you see black oil grease, that should tell you something
