Question type: Maintenance & Repair

02 Nissan sentra 1.8 having heater issues. I can
Start car up no problems let car warm up to normal
temp and heat is cool heat not hot. Thermostat
been changed with aftermarket one if I Rev engine
few times heat starts to get hot and seems to stay.
Almost like the thermostat opens late  Or if I do not
Rev engine  and I drive instead the cars heat gets
hot  coming out of vents. There is no signs of
leaks.  Car basically runs great.  I was told there is
air in coolant system I have bled car with funnel
many times and it seems to work and I have hot
heat but does not stay next day or two   Any help
would be appreciated I have searched the Web
many times and no answers.

I always recommend OEM thermostats. Also make sure air is purged out of system

Also backwash your heater core. This could be your issue.

If all else fails, do a pressure test on the cooling system to see if it holds. Could have an internal leak

Hello thermostat that was in the car was a Nissan oem only. This all started when I noticed that the heat in car was weak and I had a check engine light code for both thermostat and coolant temperature sensor. I only change the thermostat and reset the code and no more check it engine light. How do you purge the system. And did a visual check and did not see any signs of head gasket leak. I did flush heater core once and it was good. When I do get hot heat all heater hoses are hot and heater core hoses are hot. Maybe like you stated do a pressure check.

Bleed air from system like this remove cap from overflow tank fill with antifreeze to full mark leave cap off and start vehicle and let idle you will notice level in tank start to rise this is normal once thermostat starts to open level in tank will drop add more antifreeze to full mark then put cap back on.
