What does it mean when the A/T light pops on

I'm told it means Automatic transmission and that ur fluid could be low amongst other trans probs

My a/t check light came on my 2008 Nissan Altima and the car sounds like it don't want to turn over, I check the transmission fluid and its fluid in it, what else could it be?
