Should I take the risk buying a 2006 Nissan Maxima SE with 233K miles on it?
Asked by gjerrus Jul 19, 2017 at 10:53 PM about the 2006 Nissan Maxima 3.5 SE
Question type: General
I test drove a 2006 Nissan Maxima SE (automatic) today. it has very high miles
on it (233K) but drives really nice for an 11 year old vehicle. It is in very good
physical condition inside and out. The current owner is a mechanic and has
kept up the maintenance well. He has all paper work & is asking $2500 for it. I
have looked high and low in this price range. The options are horrible. Should I
buy this vehicle or am i just buying a mechanical nightmare waiting to happen?
HELP - thank you

Hey F_O_R, Is your advice to refrain from purchasing the car? According to KBB the price is good. Ive ben reading around and it seems like miles are a determining factor but maintenance is huge and can make mileage less important. I was more concerned if there was a known mileage w maximas which at that point they become "trash heap"
Price may be good but at 233K miles, you are close to considering engine and transmission failures, all of which are equally as expensive as your purchase price. Put yourself in the sellers shoes, if the car has been so good to him, why let it go for a mere 2500? If I were his mechanic, I'd tell him its been good upto this point but I'd take an offer and run. Just my two cents. Find a vehicle with less mileage that may be a little older, and avoid the headaches.
To paraphrase, ask yourself this--- How many Maximas do you see on the road with 300K miles on it? Right.
Thanks Kr I appreciate your response, it helps a lot. I am going to test drive a couple more cars tomorrow. Although the seller showed me that his dad bought a new car and he also bought another car. So in his defense they don't need the car anymore.
I would avoid any car with that amount of miles no mater how it was maintained, especially a Nissan.
I appreciate it Bob.. yeah I backed off it. I found a 2012 Dodge Avenger w 100K less miles on it w the same amenities & in just as good shape or better. Test drove it, & it runs great. I'm about to run the car fax on it now. Thanks guys, your input might have saved me a lot of money.
My advice is to buy this car if you can afford to lose all the money tomorrow. It may last you years or die tomorrow.
I have a 2005 Nissan Max with 245000 miles it’s still rolling smoothly. Keeping up the maintenance with a a little TLC will keep good cars running.
No I have a Nissan Maxima 2006 and it has so many bad technical issues
Nissan have a very good reputation for going 300k or more miles. Not like an american car. It's not a bad risk for a Nissan or a Toyota.
