Car will crank but won’t start!!

Asked by timothyjb227 Feb 22, 2019 at 01:38 AM about the 2001 Mitsubishi Diamante 4 Dr LS Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Diamanté. I was driving
down the road one day and the car practically died
on me. Shortly after I found out the engine belts
snapped, so I replaced those and the car wouldn’t
start. Then I put in a brand new battery, distributor
cap, and replaced all 6 spark plugs and wires, still
nothing. It just won’t turn over. I have very little
knowledge of anything past what I replaced,
although after talking to some people they have
said it could be 1) the timing belt, 2) fuel pump, or
3) starter. Although I don’t think it’s the starter or
fuel pump because when I try to start it I can smell
gas and the car is cranking but it won’t turn over.
Is there anyone that can shed some light on the
issue or perhaps lead me in the right direction?
The input would be very much appreciated!!

Same thing happened with my wife’s diamanté a few weeks ago. Replaced sparks, tested everything possible and still nothing. I have read forums talking about checking the asd relay which controls fuel injector and ignition coils but I have no idea where it is located. Did you figure out the problem?
