Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car heater is not working, it blows from all vents just fine and the AC works just fine, but it will not get warm. My thermostat is working and the car is actually getting warm. The fuses are fine, when I turn the knob to the warm side it wont stay it actually springs back to the cold side.... not sure what that could be, help please!

is the off/on switch electric or does it control a cable to the heater valve? whatever, sounds like the problem is there-

I believe it's a control cable, and that is kinda what I was thinking too

if the switch "springs back" it might be the heater control valve itself has frozen up- if you need a new valve, that can be a tough job as it is buried under the dash- and while in there, might as well check the whole cooling system, as all the coolant will have to be drained- new hoses, at least- and if the heater core is accessible, (the little radiator under the dash) might want to consider replacing that, too- have a pro advise you- somebody honest- if you want to try it yourself, pull off any panels under the right side of the dash and see if you can reach under and turn the valve by hand- good luck- a lot of cars have heater cores that require the whole dash to be taken out- ouch-

I am hoping I won't have to remove the whole dash... that is a lot of work. Thanks for your advice, it is very helpful!
