What would cause me to lose all electrical power to truck other than headlights?

Asked by Glenn Jan 16, 2021 at 01:22 PM about the 1985 Dodge RAM 50 Pickup Custom RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

No power when I turn ignition switch on.  If I diconnect the neg battery cable, I
get 12 volts on both sides of coil and resistor.  If I connect the neg battery cable
I lose the power on coil and resistor.  I have cleaned all ground points and
wires. No starter relay, no grey box with fusible links.

if it has that ballast resistor in ignition circuit I'd say it's that , with the neg cable removed you won't get 12V anywhere , some circuits are hot all times ( hat ) , look for obvious wiring problem/shorts , mice can invade even a daily driver .
