When and why did manufacturers stop place CD players in new vehicles? To our surprise our new 2019 Silverado LT with the All Star package does not have a CD player in it. We were told, "they all come that way now," REALLY?

Question type: General

Trailer braking system. We just purchased a new truck with a trailer hauling package. We asked to have our trailer breaking unit removed from our old truck and placed on the new one. We are being told that our old system is not compatible with the new truck and that we would have to buy their brake control or it would void our warranty. Is that for real? It's their wire harness connection that come with the truck. Their doing the installation of the harness. How can connection their harness to our old break control void the warranty?

CD's are going the way of 45 rpm records and yes there used to be record players in cars. Technology changes. I would skip the dealer and have someone else install the brake controller although a new controller is really not that expensive. The warranty stuff sounds like BS. Tell them to show you in the warranty where the old controller is not allowed!

Burn your CD's to an SD card if you truck uses one, or add them to your phone to bluetooth the music to the headunit.

My Niece's '16 Malibu doesn't have a CD player in it either. People use iPods, bluetooth, etc. to listen to their favorite music. CDs are becoming a thing of the past! Personally, I'd buy the new controller and let them install it. That way if something goes wrong later they can't weasel out of a warranty repair that you're entitled to! Some dealers absolutely hate doing warranty repairs and will come up with any excuse to not honor the warranty! My local Chevrolet Dealer is like that. Warranty repairs are always a fight there!! Hope that helps! Jim
