We have had the same issue. We unhooked the brake switch that's under the dash and cleaned it really well. My friend is a mechanic and he told us just what to do. They get dirty easily and won't work right if it's dirty. On the 19 Nissan sentra and Altima he said the manufacturers did a poor job connecting them but doing what I described does the trick.
