Difficult start, jumped, now check engine light is on

Yesterday and today, my 2002 Protege5 was difficult to start, and needed a jump start this morning. I chalked it up to the 5 degree (F) temp, but immediately after this morning's jump start, I heard a loud "pop" and now the ccheck engine light is on. The car is still difficult to start (turns over 10-20 secs before starting), but drove fine for my 10 minute commute. It just passed MD inspections one week ago... Sorry, I don't have a code.

I would get the codes read. Your local auto parts store (auto zone)will do this for free. Also older batteries (CCA)may not be performing at their peak performance level. Might also need to tighten and clean the battery connections.
