why isn't my car moving ?

Asked by mrlincoln Feb 01, 2016 at 12:37 PM about the 1999 Lincoln Continental FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Pulled up to a stop sign, stepped on the gas and I got nothing. The car won't
go forward or backward. There were no noises,no warning light,no vibration,no
smells,no nothing,it's like someone turned off a switch. There's plenty of
fluid,no leaks. I'm stumped !!

If the engine is running and the transmission has plenty of fluid and the car won't move then the problem is almost certainly with the transmission. I would take it to a good trans shop for diagnosis but you probably are looking at a transmission rebuild.

This happened to me once. I got to the stop light and tried moving when it turned green. Nothing. My tranny was dead.
