automatic shift lever is loose wont go into park on lincoln LS V8. what can I do to gix this issue

Shift lever was loose for a while and will not recognize the gear....now it will not go in park
and the starter control will not allow me to crank the car

Start by looking at the linkage at the transmission. There seems to be a problem with the grawmet that holds the linkage on the transmission itself.
