In January of this year my 2006 Lincoln navigator "check
advancetrac" light came on then went into engine failsafe
mode out of the blue and after shutting it off in an attempt
to clear the notice, it went completely dead. No crank, no
start. After 5 months of sitting in 2 different shops, I was
told the fuse box shorted out the computer. I had to replace
both and while I was at it, the starter too. Then the
converters soon after that. 3000 later, I finally get the truck
running perfectly...a week later. Happens again, check
advancetrac, engine failsafe mode and then no crank no
start. I had it towed back to the dealership who fixed the
fuse box and the starter and they finally called me today
just to tell me "you need a new valve body in the tranny
which is 4700." My question is,  if it's the valve body, that
wouldnt affect the truck starting right? I think the
dealership doesnt want to own up to fixing something that
they already fixed (my guess is starter related issue) and
they are trying to gyp me. Any suggestions, thoughts?

After several conversations with the dealership, they maintain that it's the valve body. I finally had it towed to another shop for a second opinion after of course, I had to pay a $608 diagnostic fee. I'm waiting for the new shops verdict. I will post the results here when I find out something.

Ok...after 3 months at the dealership, I had it towed to another shop. After having it 1 week and 4 days, THEY GOT IT PURRING LIKE A KITTEN. Wiring was all wrong. Wires were crossed, some were touching. All from what the dealership did when they "fixed" it. A 4700 dollar problem wound up being 800. Do NOT do business with Metro Ford on 65th and Western in Chicago

Well, we got my father's fixed and it was wiring also! Said some wires were touching the engine causing the system to respond in this manner? He has had it back about two weeks and all is working fine! thank you for sharing.

I kid you not the new place said the SAME thing. Wires touching, some crossed etc. I'm going to get the print out and upload it

I found it. On the passenger side of the vehicle, the wiring harness rubs against the exhaust manifold and melts some wires. It is where the exhaust pipe connects to the manifold.

It also blows the fuse #32 which causes it to go into failsafe

And that would explain me smelling burning plastic right before it cut out on me

Does anybody have a name for the wire harness that is rubbing? My Lincoln is doing this and this seems to be the best solution so going to start there.

Main harnesses have something that I would call plastic clips “tied” to them that allow for connecting and supporting with each other. After time these fail and the harness weight makes it fall and touch the exhaust right above the connection with the manifold. I can also confirm blown fuse 32 as I just finished fixing my car with the exact same symptoms listed above. It’s really an easy fix if you get the diagnosis right.. I hope photos will help.

Since you’re there, make sure to tape all the troubled harness nice and tight.

How can I take them wires out and replace them.cant seem to find where the wires goto 05 lincon navigator same problum

It’s the right side harness that connects in the pcm. See the one that’s missing from the picture above.

I have spliced the wires back together and the fuse was not blown and still nothing when I turn the key over

Im having the same problem... But i found the short to be under the shifter ..directly under the P-R-D 1-2 ..about 6 wires came completely disengaged from its wiring harness and were all touching.

I had the same exact issue. I changed the starter before I realized it was a wiring problem. The wires on the passenger side by the exhaust manifold were a little melted but no shorts. It ended up being a short in the wiring to one of my o2 sensors. I have aftermarket cats and sensors so one was rubbing on the frame. If anyone starts running into a dead end you can try unplugging the o2 sensors and see if it will start. Thanks everyone!!

As I read through all of these, it's starting to sound like this is the problem with my 2007 Navigator. I'm wondering if before the wiring issues were discovered, had any of you connected your Navigator to retrieve a code from the vehicle's OBD port only to find out that you could not establish a connection with the ECM/PCM? I have this problem and the code is: U0100-60 "Lost Communication with ECM/PCM"

I am having the same issue, but do not find any melted wires. Do anyone else have an idea of what could also be triggering the advance trac? Truck runs fine when I disconnect the battery cables for 15 mins to reset the system. However, after a minute or two, it seems as if something shifts and the "check advancetrac" message comes up. Once that light comes on, the truck will no longer start for the next few days.

Hi All, I wanted to provide an update, so after inspecting all, it came down to the same issue from this post, Main wire harness was on the exhaust and melted O2 sensor connector on top of that added headache my sway bar link top side had broken off and ripped my cv axle boot. it looks to be 2 separate issues but the burnt wires I fixed them and it took care of all the errors, I also found that my relay (01) was blown out and I replaced no other fuse was blown.

I had same problem with my 05 Lincoln Navigator. In shop for 9 months before they found melted wires on passenger side wire harness. by this point they had changed Thousands$ of dollars in parts and 100s of hours labor and also changed so many modules that it will never run again. I made shop purchase vehicle from me as we would never be able to come to a reasonable solution out of a court room. Total fail. Loved that Vehicle
