I know i want to buy an AWD vehicle for safety in the snow and ice. But does it matter if it is a 4 cyl. or 6 cyl. as to how well it handles and gets thru the snow?

The engine does not matter. Try to get a full time AWD car. Snow tires will make the biggest difference.
