whats the best way to clean a tan convertible top with mildew ,I would guess that's it, without damaging the top ?

I use Murphy's Soap as it's not too harsh. Be sure to use the boot if you have one. It's a bit of a pain but in the long run it will save you from spending more time cleaning the top. Plus the top will stay nicer for a longer time...IMO

I think you can also inquire about a boat/marine vinyl cleaner. I believe that they give good results depending on the material. Just a thought. Best regards, Mustang Indy
