Maybe there is air in the system. Purge air out before you drive it again.

With the fluctuating temperature gauge, air in the cooling system is my first suspect! Is your heater working? Do you hear gurgling under the dash? Those symptoms point to air in the cooling system. No heat, no gurgling, but overheating points to poor coolant circulation. Most likely from a bad water pump. Hope that helps! Jim

Definitely sounds like an air issue air in your coolant system causes Havoc get it bled. Even at the garage if they bleed it it might need it more than once
