2001 Ford expedition getting hot

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 Ford expedition Eddie Bauer 4.6L. I
replaced the thermostat and the water pump. But
now it started running hot. The gauge will slowly
rise. Could it possibly need a flush?

The SUV is 17 years old so a flush is probably overdue. I would purge air out of the system to make sure you don't have an air lock.

Also when I take the cap off and start it there isn't any flow. But I'ma try and flush it

That was replaced less than a month ago. I remember when I changed the thermostat, it was pretty rusty looking.

If the pump is new then about all that is left is a restriction in the water flow. Could be a hose as collapsed, radiator plugged up or new part died. Good luck

Could it be the fan clutch? It gets hot randomly not every time it's driven. It sat in my driveway running for an hour and never got hot. I could kill it and start it back up and the temp would go back to normal

A fan clutch is another possibility. At this point anything is possible including a a bubble in the engine, thermostat upside down, stuck, anything. Good luck.
