Relays

Asked by Clkauffman1269 Jan 16, 2019 at 09:46 PM about the 2001 Ford Excursion XLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I’m having troubles with my 01 Excursion
starting during very cold weather. Cranks like
a champ but doesn’t fire, just as if it’s not
getting fuel. All research makes me believe
it’s the Fuel Pump Relay or another relay.
Would it make any sense though that the
relay works fine when temps are higher?

I too, like you, drive a 2000 model. It is a Diesel 7.3. This is my second one. I've driven one for 18 years. When my first one got to where it didn't like cold weather, I plugged it up every night to keep it warm. Starts right up. I got 550,000 miles and mine now has 375,000. This is the first winter I've had to plug up. I love me some excursion!
