Salvage title
Asked by Kelly Oct 05, 2017 at 03:10 PM about the 2002 Ford Thunderbird Deluxe RWD
Question type: Car Selling & Trading In
I bought a car from a man in TN that owned the car
for 7 years and it had a clean title. I went to sell it,
and Carfax showed it had a salvaged title out of
GA. Both states DMV's are blaming each other. I
paid for a car with a clean title and now find out it
had been totaled. Is there anything I can do now,
and how can I get rid of it. The loss happened in
2006 and its run ever since, so I guess its not
gonna fly apart on me, but thats not the principle.
Any help would be appreciated

You could try to sue the original owner but I do not think you have any other recourse. Check the price you bought it for. If you paid salvage price then you did not lose anything. Best to suck it up and learn from this experience.
The laws vary from state to state .. in fact some states don't even have "Salvage Titles" I bought a 2014 Nissan Frontier with 21,000 miles for $8900 ... and when I went to title in Md. they gave me tags straight away ... they said the laws in Va. are different then here BTW .. it was a flood title and I expected the worse but the truck has run flawlessly since May and I love it ... not a scratch on it and it looks brand new
Thank you Tom...that makes me feel better!

Well if the ad said clean and it's salvage that's false advertisement. If you like you can file a complaint but beyond that there's not much you can do. Far as selling it, just inform the person looking at it that it has salvage title and go from there.
