'99 gmc suburban dies when backing up

Asked by Bella2024 Jun 07, 2019 at 10:48 PM about the 1999 GMC Suburban K1500 SLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My man's 99 suburban has been stuttering when
driving. The rpm gets really low when in idle. When
he backs up it dies. We replaced the rotor cap last
time this was happening and it did the trick for a bj
out 2 months. Then it started acting up again and
back firing just a bit. He replaced the sparks and
cables, and he recently change the throttle gasket
and cleaned the throttle which did the trick for
about a day and it started dying when he backed
up. If I could get a reply that would be great.

Not too sure on SLE or SLT, I will get that info if
needed.

Does the check engine light come on when it does start? I had a similar problem with my 98 suburban and after about a week of letting it sit on the drive way it started and I was able to take it to AutoZone and found out I have bad catalytic converters.
