My tail lights quit working and my liscnes
plate light

Check for fuse under hood called "PRK Lamp" usually that is connected to the tail lights and plate lights. Also check for right and left low beam fuses. If not then check the license plate bulb socket, can be full of rust or a short which will blow the fuse. You will have to replace the socket but the are like 4 bucks. Also check the sockets for your tail lights and those bulbs. Check bulbs first, trying each in each other's sockets once you have confirmed the fuses are not blown. Look for black or corrosion where the tail light bulbs plug in, this is possibly a short caused by the first event of the short you mentioned. Replace those socket(s) not expensive, only a few wires easy fix. Don't go crazy looking for shorts or ground faults this is most likely an easy fix.
