Top speed
Asked by Jhammer10 Sep 18, 2016 at 06:07 PM about the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ Double Cab 4WD
Question type: General
My truck won't go past 98 mph. Yet the top speed
was listed at 125, and the odometer goes to 140. I
know it is definetly not realistic for a truck to do
140. But I know it could at least hit triple digits.

Mine is governed to 98mph as well. I hear it can be retuned/modified if your interested.

With a bully dog I got it up to 116. And if was not maxed out
98? My Ford is limited to 100 mph so there!
Got a bullydog gt gas tuner and took the governor off my 08' 1500 with the 4.8L engine and left it on stock tune and had it up to 133 with a little wind behind me had to slow down but I believe it had a little more in it and I have yet to try a performance tune.
my stock with a 6.0 and can go to 104 on the freway
Once you get a proper tune your truck would no longer be limited to 98MPH. I have a 2014 Silverado and it was governed to 110 and after being tuned I've been able to achieve 140 with no issue at all but be mindful of your transmission temp and your tire speed rating. You don't want a tire to blow at such high speeds. And I speak from experience, once you get a proper tune you have awoken a beast you must learn to tame or the truck will scare you.
where do you go to get a proper tune to eliminate the 98MPH
2019 Silverado Lt 5.3. Crew cab 104 mph
My 2016 regular cab Silverado with 4.3 L V6 goes 112 all day long every day I do a 60 mile commute Also verified by GPS
I have a 2016 z71 w/ headers intake and pro tune for 93 octane and I got to 135 before I shut it down. It still had more. That’s with 22x12.50s with 35s. Doesn’t handle that great going that fast lol

I’m interested in 1/4 mile , anyone drag racing? I have 2016 Silverado v8 not the big one but I have a regular cab, thinking about putting slicks on and see if I can break 15 seconds in the 1/4
I beg to differ... check out the "Red Hoonigan" on YouTube.. and its daily driver
So how to you exactly stop the Governor from kicking In? I thought it was through the speedo so I ran a kill switch from the fuse box to inside the cab and I flipped it off at 97 mph and it still shut off. If you know how I can get rid of this problem email me please rickywarthen8@gmail.com thanks in advance
I have a 2018 5.3L Silverado 2WD and with a CAI, Diabo Tuner and Magna Flow Exhaust I have had it up to 140 and that is pretty much maxed out. I am planning on adding Stainless Works Long Tube Headers with X-Pipe and Duel 3" Borla Exhaust, and a Texas Speed Cam Kit which they dynoes at 467hp at the crank and it should break the 150mph barrier. I also have 295/45/20 Toyo High Speed Rated Tires and it is just as stable at 120 as it is at 60mph.
2017 silverado shifts into 6th around 110mph... Had up to 122 and know it has plenty more.... Problem is driveshaft is really only rated till around 120, then has the potential to blow, and tires... Better driveshaft and faster tires and these trucks will haul
i had my 2009 crew cab LT 5.3 at 101 yesterday all it has is 33's on 20x10's and a flowmaster 40

I was racing my buddy so threw her in sport mode and I got to 130mph. It didn’t top out so I’m not sure if in sport mode it will just keep going or what but it definitely went to 130 and didn’t top out. I have the high end package with it so it may have something to do with that.
My father's 2003 chevy Silverado SS had a new computer and new Exhaust and an new air intake and the truck went 0-60 mph in like 5 seconds and had a top speed of around 155 mph and got it up to over 140 mph easily and thiss truck was quick at accelerating and it was 1 of the fastest trucks around orange county ny and it used to beat most vehicles from like 60 mph to about 140 mph and because of its top end speed that's why it would beat most sports cars and trucks because of its top end and it still weighed 5,300 lbs and had over 400 hp and it was very fast for what it was and because it's a freaking truck lol and it had that awesome 6.0 liter Vortec 6000 engine in it from a Corvette I think it's the LQ9 engine and man that truck was awesome and I miss it but I'm going to get one myself lol.
I think it had the bully dog tuner because he said a new computer but i think he meant a tuner lol
My 2019 GMC Sierra 6.2l black widow doesnt shut off! Had mine up to 133mph and had more in it when i let out of it
I know this is an older post but my 2012 will do a little better than 140 mph. I'm not sure if you ever figured out anything with yours but the potential is there and it is, without any doubt, possible to go way into the triple digits with these trucks.
My 2020 Trail Boss LT w/ 5.3 V8 - 10spdAT stops me at 98mph only showing about 3200 rpms. I want more.
2020 trail boss w/ 6.2 10spd tops out at 112
2019 silverado 5.3 LD 6speed k&n intake magnaflow dual exhaust diablo sport predator 2 tuner. Diablo mode 144mph till it kind of loses power wont go above 4200rpm in 6th gear i wonder why it's like it's still governed. It did feel very stable at this speed too.
Still waiting for the “why do you want to go 100 in a truck” crowd to chime in

Quick trip to the track and a pair of slicks, under it Enjoy !!! Stage 2 chip in a 1995 silverado 5.0 or 5.7 will bypass the speed limiter. Do realize that with a gear change, tires etc. You will have to do the speed odometer calculations and change in various items. Best Wishes
To the 100 mph ford, you must not of understood that Chevy is governed which means it can go faster where ford can only go 100. Lol

For the 2020 it appears that the short bed crew 5.3 is limited at 98 but the longbed isn't. What's subpar about the build of the short vs long? Maybe the differential isnt up for the task

2014 Silverado 1500 5.3L K&N Intake kit, Flowmaster Super 44's, Diablo tuner on 93 octane (diablo tune). My truck can achieve 127 before it starts getting scary, need to address the drive shaft vibration issue at 107-112 mph. Tires are Ridge grapplers. with ought serious drivetrain modification I think this is the limit.

I've got a 2001 Silverado with the 5.3. I've got the edge cts tuner for gas. Tuned it to eliminate the speed governer and it corrects the speed based on tire size. Had mine up to 130. Handled great but I didn't sustain the speed very long due to tranny temp getting too hot

2021 6.2 trail boss. It shut me down tonight at 98mph and I got smoked by some old ford. Wtf?

1998 Chev 454 low ratio San Francisco to LA early am 110 max all the way. Trying to go faster the valves sounded like the were floating and engine backed off. I assume it was a governor. Followed an unknown fox to T&A Truckstop at foot of grapevine. Asked her how fast she was going, she said didn't know, just put her foot down and went as fast as she could. I'll never forget her. Just plain hot.
