2014 F150 fuel pump relay issue
Asked by Guitrsncars Sep 15, 2019 at 10:41 PM about the 2014 Ford F-150 XLT SuperCrew
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
On my 2014 5.0 F 150 the relay keeps
popping. It blows out and stops
working every week or so. The Ford
dealer told me they may have to rewire
a new and bigger relay separate from
the fuse box. 700 dollars. Is there any
others with this problem? It should be a
recall.

I think the pump may be drawing too much power. They should measure the amp draw before making a Mickey Louse repair.
It means the pump might be bad.

It’s not clear when u mean by the relay keeps popping. But there is a open service recall on that vehicle to relocate the fuel pump fuse to a different spot in the fuse box. Check with the dealer it should be covered by ford. Also if you open a case with ford customer service. And file a complaint about the dealer that told u $700. The dealer usually gets inline real quick.

Thanks Citylife404. Is the relay a fuse? I heard it from 2 dealers that they would charge me.

The relay is not a fuse... the fuse Burns our and causes that problem

Where is this fuse? And wouldn't it cause a problem if it were blown, like the truck wouldn't start or something?

Check your switch in the dash loose connection in the plug to the switch always check frist second check the diverter switch under the truck near the fuel filter it transfers the tanks and the sending unit after that above the filter there is a hose that has a quick disconnect on it frist go under hood disconnect realy driver side where there is a long skinny black plastic cover under that is 3 relays one is your pump un plug it start truck let it run out of gas then go under truck disconnect hose above filter place both ends in bucket plug in realy now start truck fuel will be filling bucket from engine this is the return fuel line a lot should be coming out at idle and it should stop when you step on gas if this does not happen then replace fuel regulator
