Does the alternator generate any heat when it is charging. I just had the alternator rebuilt. Don't know what they did when they put it back into the car but the electrical wires on the alternator have melted and broken in two and now the car won't start. It is a 2002 Ford Escort

If the new alt. had to charge a dead batt that doesn't help things , I'd take it back and buy only AC delco OEM parts

This is the alternator that was on the car when I bought it. The mechanic took it off and took it to a local electrical shop for the rebuild. They have a good reputation for getting things right. They've been in business for over 40 years so they don't really mess up. I'm wondering if the protective sleeve around the wire should have been pushed up to prevent any heat from the alternator from melting the casing around the wire and then causing the wire to break. Returning for correction is out of the question. I had a deal with the mechanic to do his books for repair work since I only drive old vehicles (this is the newest one) and things have not gone quite as expected. I've done more bookkeeping than I've gotten in repairs and I'm not giving him a chance to hold the car hostage.
