2014 toyota corolla s lack of accelleration /sluggish

Asked by Rickgranberg Aug 20, 2016 at 11:22 PM about the 2014 Toyota Corolla S

Question type: General

I have a 2014 toyota corolla s automatic with
71000 miles. I took it to the dealer and was told
after 4 hours that they know something is wrong
but, they don't know. The car has very sluggish
acceleration. There is also a jerking type motion in
lower gears. The dealer said there was no codes
and I never got a check engine light. I added sea
foam to the last 3 tanks of gas encase I had bad
gas. I also cleaned the air filter, MAS with CRC
sensor cleaner and disconnected the muffler to
eliminate possible issues with after market parts. I
have a typhoon K&N cold air intake and a borland
exhaust. Both have been on the car for over a year
and half with no issues. The problem still exists.
I'm starting to think maybe it's the catalytic
convertor but, I'm not sure. The issue started about
a week ago and is progressively getting worse. The
worst is when the car has idled for a bit like a stop
light. Has anyone else experienced this have a clue
what is going on?

Check transmission fluid level. Also maybe the transmission shift solenoid.

Firebird, I had the system drained and serviced. I now have a check engine light and code corresponding to it. P2820. Pressure control solenoid J performance stuck off. Probable causes are not listed. I can't seem to find a diagram or parts listing anywhere for a pressure control solenoid. Code is listed under generic. Is this another name for speed control solenoid or transmission shift solenoid?

Check your nearest transmission shop they should be able to tell you where the pressure control solenoid is located on your vehicle.

Yes, I have the same problem and discovered that it is a Toyota Manufacturer Transmission issue. Toyota will replace the transmission for you at no cost to you. Code P2820 is a Toyota Recall, see your nearest Toyota dealer.

I just had the same issue with my 2015 Corolla with 74k miles. I'm very pissed about this. The dealership just said "you need a new transmission. It will be $8k." All they said was the code was P2820 and don't know what else to tell me.

i have 2014 corolla le eco plus and transmission jerking , high rpm and not smooth from stop to run, bring to dealer to run test ( VHC ) and no error code and no fault found but technician verify have issue , leave car for 4 days and get back to me said need transmission replace, car have 117k miles and toyota will not consider replace free or discounted due to high miles, i can't believe this is my first time toyota have transmission issue , all my car toyota never have major engine or transmission issue, i have 2004 prius with 350k miles still run smooth, toyota should take ownership on this new cvt transmission design, this cvt transmission have gear they call lunch gear, it use gear from stop to run before cvt step in and some how the system malfunction that why make it jerk and not smooth, good luck to all if your transmission jerking.
