Timing /firing order

I have a 1981 elcamino. It has a 1996 vortex
engine.   Edelbrock intake, 600/eld , carb ,and
hei distributer, what would the firing order be?
Also plug gap and how do I check the timing
and what is the timing ? I f this was an older
stock 350 I would have no problem , but I Dont
have the money to go to a race shop to pay
them to help me ,  thank you very much any
help I get with this really word be appreciateed,
also has hooker headers . also still has stock
timing cover and a place for the crank sender
but its not hooked to a ecm.
