If its under 36,000 miles take it in to your local Dodge dealer and have it looked at and fixed under warranty. If its over 36,000 take it to your local Autozone and have them scan it for free.
If in USA stop by auto zone and have them read the codes. Most states they do this for free. Post the code numbers back on here and we can help you figure out what's causing the light to be on.
I went to my local Autozone, the code read P0456 which could mean a loose gas cap(and it was loose) or an eval emissions sensor.
Cool. That will not effect how your car runs or drives. You won't pass emissions with it on if you have to have it tested. Do you have less than 36,000 miles on your Avenger?
Its almost never just a gas cap. It will be an EVAP problem then. Usually a vent valve or charcoal canister. Neither are very expensive to have replaced but if you can get it fixed under warranty for free, that's what the warranty's there for.
I have 54,000 miles on her. And yes I was trying the most least expensive fix first. My car runs fine, quiet, no sputters, it idles fine. Take off is normal, get up and go is fine as well.
Oh well on the miles. It still might not be a bad idea to call your local Dodge dealers service department and ask about any recalls on it. You might get lucky and that could be covered.
I will definitely give them a call. Thanks :-)
Update; u changed the gas cap, after a few key starts the light went off. :-)
Very nice. You beat the odds. Like I said before it's almost never just the gas cap. Play the lottery or something, LOL.
Tempature light came in when driving then started beeping and that light went off and the engine light came on and a lightning bolt light which book said was malfunctioning indicator light
