KIA Optima Gas Odor

Asked by 1Cartrouble Dec 02, 2015 at 08:26 AM about the 2013 Kia Optima EX

Question type: General

I have a 2013 KIA Optima and I continually get a smell of gas odor coming through the vents.  One day the odor was so strong it felt like I was sitting at a gas station.

I would bring it in and have it checked ASAP. Gas fumes are not something to mess with. You could possibly have a leak at the fuel rail and the fumes are being sucked in through the cowl.

I'm having the same issue with my 2015 optima. I found where the smell is coming from and can actually see the gas dripping. I only have 16,000 miles on the car.

I have a 2011 Kia Optima 2.4L and I had the same issue! I have had my engine replaced as part of the recall and this is 14 months later. I pulled over immediately and spotted that the gas was spraying out of the bottom of the fuel tube assembly. There’s a flare at each end of the line that should have direct contact with the connection (engine block). They need to completely replace this part when replacing the engine because it shapes to the engine block and if it’s not a perfect fir then with the amount of pressure through that line it’s going to shoot gas out 100% of the time. I initially thought it just came loose but that was not the case at all. The part had to be replaced. The most ridiculous part is that the Kia that replaced my engine made me pay for the part $40. By the time I gave up on fighting with the part (tight space) it was 1am and I had no choice but to leave my car in SC and have my brother come get me, from an hour away and drive to FL because my girlfriend had no time off available and most importantly our dog was stuck at our home alone. The dog sitter had to leave town that afternoon and took the spare key because this was unexpected (she was 4 hours away already). So on basically no sleep I had to go to Kia, showed the service manager a video of the fuel leaking and he tells me that because it’s 2 months over the 12 month replacement and that I have to pay out of my pocket for the part. I could have literally died if those fumes combusted. The cost was $40 which isn’t much but the lack of customer service was mind blowing. On top of that I had to still drive back to SC then back home to FL. Not to mention I discovered a news article (attached) that states this part should be replaced during the engine replacement. I am far from done with this and I will be contacting corporate as well as the news stations until they make right out of this nightmare. https://www.abcactionnews.com/news/local- news/i-team-investigates/some-kia-car-fires-may- be-caused-by-work-done-during-engine-recall- replacements
