I personally, had mine break on my 2002 dodge stratus, and i had bent valves and the whole nine yards. I had to pay $600, and that was with parts + labor.

Depending on the year make and model I just replaced a water pump on a 2005 dodge stratus(TIMMING CHAIN) driven. All data says 6.7 hours lab or time so depending on the shops labor cost and parts mark-up that will determine your cost. For just labor and water pump, $1280.
